Ilana Glazer is doing it all — delivering laughs on Hulu with her Human Magic special, performing in a Tony-nominated show, navigating motherhood, and somehow still managing to find time to wash her face at the end of the day. But how does she actually unwind?

What made you want to partner with Garnier?
I’ve been a longtime lover of Garnier — and I really am choiceful with the way that I do branded content or Ads — and this product is excellent. I’m using it to “de-glaze” every day. They [Garnier] were so open to my creative vision for this, and I worked with the incredible director Symone Baptiste, and I collaborated with one of my favorite comedians, Alison Leiby, to write the stand-up set. I could tell this company really understands their audience and really wants to authentically relate to their audience. It felt good.
Was there anything about the product [Micellar Water with Salicylic Acid] that surprised you?
I was nervous about using it around my eyes — would it be too harsh? But it was really gentle. I’m using it to “de-glaze” seriously every night.
Have you noticed a difference at all?
I would say that my skin is feeling very clean now after consistently using the product. Often, micellar water can feel oily, and this does not at all.

Do you view skincare as a chore or something you enjoy doing?
In this Broadway process, I’m really noticing my compulsivity. And I think it’s one of those compulsive pleasures where I love the punitive nature of it. My skin is so clean after “de-glazing,” which is really enjoyable.
Using my Garnier Micellar Water with Salicylic Acid every night in my routine has helped me get ready to be a Broadway actor in this play.
Speaking of which, you just made your Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck — what encouraged you to pursue this role?
OK, so first of all, I have to say I’m taking a breath. Big inhale, big exhale because I am so thrilled to be doing this. This year has been tough in many ways for us as a country, but I’m overflowing with gratitude when I can, and this experience with Garnier was such a gift, and this experience with Good Night, and Good Luck is such a gift.
And I kind of got involved just by playing with the piece, and workshopping it with George Clooney (who is starring in it) and Grant Heslov (who wrote the play). And the magnificent David Cromer is directing it. I was just going to this workshop to help them [Clooney and Heslov] to see and hear the play out loud, and I learned so much in those few days. I was just blown away and knew I had to be a part of it. I really clicked with the creative team, and then, when I was officially a part of the cast, I was just so thrilled.

What’s it like working with the cast?
I am learning from masters of their craft. It’s incredible. George, as a leader of a space and a creative captain, is captivating, inspiring, and compelling. He has such a generous spirit as a creative leader, and the material is so rich. I’m learning so much about how much you can say with very little. You know the writing is very lean. And David Cromer, the director, is just a buzzing, brilliant, genius — who won a MacArthur Genius Award — so he’s a literal genius.
The cast is so cool. Everyone is so smart and kind. It’s just been so much fun.
Are there any funny behind-the-scenes moments?
I mean, we are laughing all day, every day. George, I guess, is known to be a very funny person on set, which was unexpected. But we are just laughing all the time. I also want to shout out the band on stage with us, which elevates the whole play — the play goes from black to white to color with this band, they are so good.
Do you have a favorite Broadway show?
Oh gosh, I don’t know. I mean, there are a few that come to mind. Wicked. I was maybe 17 when I saw it with Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel and was like, “Ohhh.” I was obsessed with Rent as a kid, too.
You’ve come so far since the start of your career, is there any advice you would give to your younger self?
Lately, I have been so sad about how I did not know how beautiful I was. I would really tell myself, “Like you are beautiful.” Take pleasure in your beauty. Take pleasure in your body, in your mind. Take pleasure in it all.
And, of course, I have to mention Broad City. Going off the premise of two 20-somethings trying to get by in New York, what do you think it takes to make it here [NYC]?
In New York, you’re always needing to make it, and you always need some tricks. But definitely a good pair of cool sneakers.
But I would say you need breaks. Whether that means getting out of the city if you have the resources to do so or staying in the city. Taking real breaks from going out or, you know, breaks with your friends. Creating space and pausing to rest is important to sustain this city.
