Because Taylor Swift relentlessly releases a dozen different versions of each of her albums alongside exclusive, limited edition merchandise that sells out within seconds, Swifties have learned that it’s better to buy now and think about the money they’ve spent later. And now that the singer has been linked to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce following a social media-dominating appearance at Sunday’s game, he’s getting the same treatment by mere association.
“Yesterday, Travis Kelce was one of the top five selling NFL players and saw a nearly 400% spike in sales throughout the Fanatics network of sites, including NFLShop.com,” a spokesperson for the NFL’s official e-commerce partner, Fanatics, shared in a statement via CNN.
Swift, herself, wore a Chiefs jacket when she attended their game against the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Next to her for most of the night was Kelce’s mother, Donna Kelce, sporting one of her son’s jerseys.
When Kelce first began publicly expressing interest in Swift after attending one of her Eras tour shows at Arrowhead Stadium, he tried to adapt to her world. “If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets, and I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it,” he told ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show last week. “She doesn’t meet anybody or at least she didn’t want to meet me, so I took it personal. But it was an unbelievable show.”
When the Eras tour resumes later this year and extends well into 2024, the stadiums Swift dominates will likely have some Swifties in Kelce jerseys sprinkled throughout the audience, among others in looks inspired by Reputation, 1989, Speak Now, Fearless, and all of the singer’s other albums.
