The Beginning of the End of Princess Diana's Royal Nightmare Unfolds in 'The Crown' Season 6 Trailer

Tensions are rising for Princess Diana and the whole of England in the official trailer for The Crown Season six, which will premiere on Netflix with its first four episodes on Nov. 16. The series ramps up for the epic finale of the popular series through the use of the tragic end of the People’s Princess’ life. “I don’t understand how I ended up here, dashing around, losing sight of myself in the process,” Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) says in the trailer. “Now, I think that’s the story of my whole life.”

The first installment of the final season will largely take place in 1997, centered around Princess Diana’s relationship with Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla), the feral paparazzi that watched their every move, and the fatal car crash that ultimately killed them both in August of that year. “I’m afraid, your majesty, interest in the princess’s private life is unlikely to die down anytime soon,” an official tells Queen Elizabeth II (Imelda Staunton) in the clip.

As the chaos around the princess intensifies, the looming devastation is set against quiet phone calls shared with her children, Prince William (Rufus Kampa) and Prince Harry (Fflyn Edwards). She reassures them, promising that she’s okay, but adding: “It’s just it all has been a bit mad recently.”

The second installment of the final season will premiere on Dec. 14 with six additional episodes to bring The Crown to an end. Those episodes will follow the aftermath of the tragedy of Princess Diana’s death through 2005, the year Prince Charles married Camilla Parker-Bowles. It will also follow Queen Elizabeth’s 2002 Golden Jubilee, Prince William’s budding relationship with Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry’s adjustment to life without his mother.
