The Neighbourhood to Release First Studio Album in Five Years

The Neighbourhood will unveil a new album, (((((ultraSOUND))))), on Nov. 14 via Warner Records, marking the band’s first studio LP in five years. The announcement comes after the group revealed in August that they had reunited in November 2024 following a three-year hiatus.

Ahead of the album, the musicians shared three tracks: “Private,” “OMG,” and “Lovebomb.”“Private” was built around a GarageBand drum break and vocal that frontman Jesse Rutherford recorded on his phone, while “Lovebomb” was created from a Jono-and-Abels loop.

According to a press release, (((((ultraSOUND))))) “signals a powerful return to the band’s roots” and draws “inspiration from Brit-pop while maintaining their signature California indie sound.” The release adds that “lyrically, the album is intimate and self-aware, exploring heartbreak, disillusionment, and emotional vulnerability with a maturity that reflects the band’s artistic growth.”

In August, the Neighbourhood shared an Instagram Story post announcing that the group — including drummer Brandon Fried — had reunited. “In November 2021, after 10 years together, The Neighbourhood went on an indefinite hiatus,” the band wrote. “As we entered our early 30s, we were faced with life outside of the band for the first time in our adult lives. Breakups, family struggles, and personal challenges.”

The band — which originally comprised vocalist Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Zachary Abels and Jeremiah Freedman, bassist Michael Margott, and Fried — added that the drummer is returning to the band after he waskicked out for gropingthe Marías’ Maria Zardoya in late 2022. “We are proud of Brandon, the changes he has made, and the progress he continues to make in his life,” they noted. “Being in each other’s lives for over 20 years, when one of us is going through something, it impacts all of us.”

The Neighbourhood’s last release before their hiatus wasChip Chrome & The Mono-Tonesin September 2020. Since then, Rutherford released a pair of albums, 2023’s&ONEand 2024’sJesse®.
