Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd Want to Ruin Each Other's Lives in 'Friendship' Trailer

Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd are uncertain BFFs in the trailer for Friendship. The A24 film, written and directed by Andrew DeYoung, will play at SXSW in March before arriving in theaters in May.

In the clip, Robinson plays an average guy named Craig, who is encouraged by his wife (Kate Mara) to hang out with his new neighbor (Rudd) and a group of guys. The pair quickly become mates, with a montage of the two hanging out in bars and driving around together. “I can see the future,” Craig says in a voiceover. “It’s full of pals. I’m on the edge of life, and the view is gorgeous.” Soon, though, Rudd’s character tells Craig they should “go their separate ways,” leading to some signature Robinson’s antics.

A synopsis for the film notes, “Suburban dad Craig falls hard for his charismatic new neighbor, as Craig’s attempts to make an adult male friend threaten to ruin both of their lives.” A press release adds, “Writer-director Andrew DeYoung takes Tim Robinson’s signature cringe to the big screen in a laugh-until-you-cry nightmare comedy about male bonding gone wrong.”

Friendship also stars Jack Dylan Grazer, Josh Segarra, and Billy Bryk. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, where it was acquired by A24. An exact theatrical release date has yet to be announced.
