Tina Turner’s solo career was so successful that calling it a “solo career” is almost reductive, and a large part of that success was due to the 1984 album Private Dancer. The album was Turner’s breakthrough post-Ike and Tina, and it featured hits like “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and her cover of “Let’s Stay Together.”
To (somewhat belatedly) celebrate the album’s 40th anniversary, Rhino is releasing the 2015 remaster with a new pearl-colored vinyl, a CD, and a deluxe Blu-ray and CD set featuring previously unreleased tracks. The release is available to preorder and will arrive on March 21.

Ahead of the album’s rerelease, a track that was previously thought to be lost was rereleased. “Hot for You, Baby,” originally recorded by John Paul Young, was left off Private Dancer on the original release. The track is included on the CD and the deluxe Blu-ray, although the vinyl only features the remastered version of the original album, not the bonus tracks. The CD edition also features different versions of the tracks, including live renditions.

The Blu-ray version features upgraded versions of the music videos, as well as multiple CDs. The box set includes the newly upgraded 55-minute Private Dancer Tour show, featuring performances alongside David Bowie and Bryan Adams. There are five upgraded music videos, including a 4K remaster of the “Private Dancer” from the original 35 mm film.
The album would peak at No. 3 on the Billboard chart, and “What’s Love Got To Do With It” would become her sole No. 1 hit on the Hot 100. “Better Be Good To Me” peaked at No. 5. The album won four Grammys, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year for “What’s Love Got to Do with It?”
