Merry Christmas, Joker fans. Director Todd Phillips celebrated the holiday by unveiling two new images from his forthcoming sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. The photos, which he shared on Instagram, showcases stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga as the Joker and Harley Quinn.
“Wishing everyone a happy holiday and a beautiful new year,” Phillips wrote. The first photo reveals Phoenix’s Joker jailed while the second photo depicts Harley Quinn gazing at the Joker, who has donned his classic makeup.
Phillips and his cast have been teasing the movie, a sequel to the 2019Jokerfilm, all year. In April, Lady Gaga shared an official photo of her as Harley Quinnon social media. “That’s a wrap,” Gaga wrote on Instagram, signing the post “X, Harleen.”
The director also shared the photo, along with a separate picture ofPhoenix. “That’s a wrap,” Phillips wrote. “Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom. Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together.”
Paparazzi previously snapped the singer/actress on the sequel’s shoot, while Phillips shareda Valentine’s Day stillof Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix locking eyes. As social media has pointed out, Gaga’s look as the character shares more in common withthe Harley Quinn of the short-lived 2002Birds of PreyTV showthan the bat-wielding maximalist take that Margot Robbie recently brought to the big screen.
Joker: Folie à Deux is set to arrive Oct. 4, 2024 — exactly five years afterthe first film’s release.
