Convicted Killer Phones in From Prison in 'Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari' Docuseries Trailer

The tagline for Hulu‘s documentary series Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari promises “a wild tale of greed, sex, and mysterious death.” The first official trailer for the three-part release delivers. Streaming beginning July 21, Murder on Safari follows the 2016 murder of Bianca Rudolph, who died in a safari cabin in Zambia where she was holed up with her husband, Larry Rudolph.

“There’s been a horrible, tragic accident,” Larry says in a recorded phone call played at the beginning of the trailer. “My wife was on safari. I never thought this would happen in a million years.” His disbelief seems unconvincing to the characters featured in the series, including his former business partner, former employees from his dental office, and the FBI agents who worked closely on the case that ultimately landed Larry in prison with a life sentence for murder.

Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari is based on writer Matt Sullivan’s 2022 Rolling Stone feature “Before the Dentist Knows You’re Dead.” It was co-produced by XTR, ABC News Studios, and Rolling Stone Films. The docuseries features additional appearances from Milliron’s daughter, the Rudolphs’ insurance broker, the former U.S. ambassador to Zambia, members of Safari Club International, and more. The series is directed and executive-produced by Dani Sloane. Erin Lee Carr serves as executive producer, with Kaley Roberts as producer.

“As investigators dig deeper, they uncover decades of salacious patterns in Larry’s personal and professional dealings, including affairs, fraud, and more,” a synopsis of the series reads. “But the question remains: could this apparent egomaniac commit murder? And if so, does the FBI have the evidence to prove it?”

In the trailer, one source dramatically recalls a scene between Larry and Lori Milliron, the woman with whom he was having an affair. “He pointed his finger in Lori’s face and said, ‘I killed my [censored] wife for you,’” the source claims. Lori steps in to speak for herself, albeit from the federal prison where she’s serving 17 years for her role as an accessory in the murder of Bianca. “I relive this every day in my mind,” she says. “It was really frightening.”

Larry also calls in to weigh in, maintaining his sense of disbelief while saying, “I still can’t believe it turned out the way that it did.”
