Usher can’t help that people have been swooning over him for the better part of the past three decades. He’s just that guy. When he serenaded Keke Palmer during one of his Las Vegas residency shows a few months ago, it struck a chord with her boyfriend, Darius Jackson, who inadvertently became the subject of Usher’s tantalizing single “Boyfriend.” He poked fun at the situation with a winking music video, but the singer knows how to pick his battles — and going head-to-head with Dwyane Wade for serenading Gabrielle Union isn’t a fight he could see himself winning.
“Let’s not get carried away,” Usher joked on the first night of his residency in Paris, where the couple was in attendance. “Y’know, this is Dwyane Wade — I ain’t crazy! That man will knock my whole head off and then dunk it.” Not wanting to start a fire he can’t put out, the singer added a quick “So happy to see you” before moving on with the show.
Usher shared the interaction on his Instagram accounts, captioning the clip: “Look, I don’t want no smoke 😅 👐🏾 Night one in Paris.” Wade reposted on Twitter, adding: “Love and respect.”
Usher has no time to waste on recovering as he prepares to play the 2024 Super Bowl LVIII halftime show.
“It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” Usher shared in a statement when the career-milestone was first announced. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”
Wade had even celebrated the news on his own social media accounts, sharing a GIF from Usher’s Tiny Desk concert performance and writing: “They call him — U S H E R R A Y M O N D!”
