It’s a busy month for both film and TV this February. Curb Your Enthusiasm begins its final season on Max, for instance, and Christopher Nolan’s (pretty great) COVID casualty Tenet makes a return to theaters. As for the rest, you’ll find everything from reanimated corpses to spies in love to an author in mortal peril. Here are the new TV and movie releases we’re watching this month.

Argylle (Theaters, February 2)

Is 1984’s Romancing the Stone secretly the most influential movie of the Twenties? With a plot that recalls that film and 2022’s The Lost City, Argylle stars Bryce Dallas Howard as Elly Conway, a shy writer who’s involuntarily drawn to a world of danger and intrigue reminiscent of her books. Matthew Vaughn (The Kingsman) directs a cast that also includes Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, and Rolling Stone cover star Dua Lipa. Get Tickets on Fandango

Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Prime Video, February 2)

Speaking of spies, Donald Glover and Maya Erskine star in a new series inspired by the 2005 film of the same name playing spies who pose as a married couple for their cover story. Inevitably, the job gets more complicated. Glover and Francesca Sloane serve as co-creators. Stream it on Prime Video

Lisa Frankenstein (Theaters, February 9)

The last horror comedy Diablo Cody scripted was 2009’s Jennifer’s Body, a flop at the time that’s since become a cult classic. Maybe this one, the feature directorial debut of Zelda Williams, will get its due sooner. Kathryn Newton stars as an Eighties goth who may have found the man of her dreams after resurrecting a decades-old corpse (Cole Sprouse). Get Tickets on Fandango

The Taste of Things (Theaters, February 9)

France was roundly criticized for submitting The Taste of Things for the Best International Film category in the Oscars instead of Anatomy of a Fall, but we shouldn’t hold that against what sounds like an intriguing film. Trần Anh Hùng (Cyclo) writes and directs the story of a chef (Juliette Binoche) and restaurant owner (Benoît Magimel) with a complicated relationship that sometimes finds expression in food. The Daily Show (With Jon Stewart) (Comedy Central, February 12)

Jon Stewart returns to the series he anchored for years, though there are a couple of asterisks next to this development: Stewart will only be in the chair on Mondays and only through the end of the election season. Stewart exited just as Trump was becoming a candidate so, at the very least, it should be interesting to get his take on how the world has changed in his absence. Bob Marley: One Love (Theaters, February 14)

The reggae giant’s life gets the biopic treatment via a film directed by King Richard’s Reinaldo Marcus Green. Kingsley Ben-Adir (no stranger to playing famous figures thanks to One Night in Miami) stars as Marley opposite Lashana Lynch’s Rita Marley. Get Tickets on Fandango

Madame Web (Theaters, February 14)

In the latest Sony film set in the Spider-Man universe but sans Spider-Man, Dakota Johnson plays Casandra Webb, a paramedic who develops the ability to see and reshape the future. She also gets to know three women (played by Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, and Isabela Merced) whose characters share names with some spider-themed heroines from Marvel Comics. Hmmm… Get Tickets on Fandango

The New Look (Apple TV+, February 14)

“The New Look” of the title refers to the fashion line that made Christina Dior famous. But he’s not there yet in this new series dramatizing the designer’s ascent. Ben Mendelsohn plays Christian Dior, Maisie Williams co-stars as his wife Catherine, Juliette Binoche is on board as Coco Chanel while John Malkovich, Emily Mortimer, and Claes Bang round out the cast. Stream it on Apple TV+

The Vince Staples Show (Netflix, February 15)

Staples plays a fictionalized version of himself in this five-episode series depicting his misadventures as a successful but sub-superstar rapper living in Long Beach. Stream it on Netflix

Constellation (Apple TV+, February 21)

A veteran of Doctor Who and thus no stranger to twisty sci-fi concepts, Peter Harness creates this new series starring Noomi Rapace as Jo, an astronaut who returns from a troubled trip with disturbing gaps in her memory. Stream it on Apple TV+

Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix, February 22)

A beloved animated fantasy series of the late 2000s, Avatar: The Last Airbender has previously been adapted to live action via the 2010 film The Last Airbender. This new Netflix series is based on the idea that the story deserves a second chance to work in live action, and may be proved correct. Gordon Cormier steps into the role of Aang, a 12-year-old who may hold the fate of the world in his hands. Stream it on Netflix

Drive-Away Dolls (Theaters, February 23)

The Coen brothers’ solo adventures continue with this crime comedy directed by Ethan Coen from a script he co-wrote with wife Tricia Cooke. Margaret Qualley co-stars as friends whose road trip gets them mixed up with the wrong element and with a supporting cast played Beanie Feldstein, Matt Damon, Colman Domingo, and others. The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy (Prime Video, February 23)

The intergalactic medical facility of the title serves as the setting for this new adult animated comedy with a creative team that includes Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne and a voice cast featuring Stephanie Hsu, Keke Palmer, Kieran Culkin and Sam Smith. Hsu and Palmer voice best friends/respected surgeons facing a slew of problems, medical and otherwise. Stream it on Prime Video

Shōgun (FX, February 27)

Previously adapted into a blockbuster 1980 miniseries, James Clavell’s 1975 novel inspired by the life of William Adams, an Englishman who came to play a key role in Japanese history, gets a second pass via this big-budget miniseries. Cosmo Jarvis plays John Blackthorne, a navigator brought by shipwreck to Japan in 1600. Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai co-star as, respectively, a powerful warlord and a shrewd, powerful woman whose lives intertwine with his. Stream it on Hulu

Elsbeth (CBS, February 29)

This second series spinning out of The Good Wife sees Carrie Preston reprising her role as Elsbeth Tascioni, an brilliant and disarmingly eccentric Chicago attorney. Elsbeth was always a highlight on both The Good Wife and The Good Fight, so it should be fun to see what Robert and Michelle King do with her here, particularly with Wendell Pierce serving as Preston’s co-star.
